Player Survey Results June 2021

As you are aware, the Club sent out a survey to all members asking about how you felt the Club was conducting itself for our members enjoyment.

Recently we invited you to complete a survey and provide feedback to the club.

There was a high percentage of members who took time to do this- again, we thank you.

From the comments provided, the club highlighted some of the more important items raised by respondents and committed to taking proactive measures in addressing these as soon as we could.

This was ratified at the recent Wests Committee meeting, and below is the committee’s commitment to our members.

Game basics – members identified that we need to spend more time on teaching kids the game of baseball. In any Club situation, quality coaches are vital, and our Club is very lucky to have quite a number of very experienced and high-quality coaches. We also have some Parents who have put up their hand to coach their kids’ team and these coaches have less coaching experience. The Club will develop a coaching program that all of our coaches can follow and implement. We will have our Coaching program focus on teaching the game as well as teaching the technique fundamentals. The club recently emailed all members asking for expression of interest in coaching teams. The Committee will make the team coaching appointments accordingly and the appointed coaches will work together to form a united coaching program across the age groups prior to pre-season training.

Team selection process-From this season onwards, there will be an implementation of “trial” selection days. This is designed to ensure we properly assess each player against skills criteria to ensure that we focus on the development of the player and the best match of skills to each team and their respective division    We want to remain proud of our clubs inclusiveness and want emphasise and monitor players around their respective skills in especially in terms division selection where applicable. Last year was quite unique, in that we had a high number if players signing on after season commencement, this resulted in some players potentially being on the bench more often than desired. While late sign on, may still occur, we will monitor player participation to ensure it is administered in such a way no persons are disadvantaged. We all want our players at the end of the day to be having fun.

Communication- there were respondents that flagged the need for the coaches/ managers to improve the communication process to the players and parents/ carers regarding training, game updates, wet weather plans and so on. The club is looking to utilise App based technology for this. The preferred one at this stage is known as Team App. Some of you would be familiar with this App already as some coaches used this last season. The club will provide communication to the Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers and yourselves around this once finalised.

Amenities Block Grant

Western Districts Baseball Club is very proud to announce that Brisbane City Council have awarded the club a grant of $100,000.00 through the Council's Building Stronger Communities grant program.

The new Amenities block will be located next to the Clubrooms between the clubrooms and the Batting Cage.

The Amenitites block will be a prefabricated building providing male and female toilets and change rooms, a PWD room and a storage room which will also double as the Umpires room.

Both the Amenitites Block and the Batting cage will now be treated together as there are savings in doing this.

Brisbane City Council is tremendously supportive of these projects and will appoint a SQP - Suitably Qualified Person - to work with the Club with regard to all of the Environmental issues which need to overcome when building on a contaminated land site.

Atthows Park Masterplan

Western Districts Baseball Club, together with our neighbours, Centenary Sstormers Soccer Club, have been awarded a Brisbane City Council Grant of $7500 each to appoint and work with a Consultant to develop a Masterplan for Atthows Park.

This Masterplan is an important planning tool which will provide much needed information to Council and our two Clubs with regard to what each Club wishes to do for our future infrastructure plans.

Our two Clubs are working with Consultant - CPR Group and BCC to finalise the Masterplan within the next couple of months.

Batting Cage Grant

Our local MP for Mount Ommaney, the  lovely Jessica Pugh, has announced she has been successful in gaining a Grant of $177, 370 for Wests to build our batting cage.

The Club owes a great debt to Jess and Rachael and team for this success

It is hoped the batting cage which will also be able to be used a an undercover training facility will be operational through the first quarter 2021
